THE WIFE LIFE: YEAR 1
Lessons from all our quirks
Happy New Year 2020! Cheers to the beginning of a new
decade!
This was long overdue as this is supposed to be a “ONE YEAR
IN” moment. Our first anniversary was 3 months back, yet still the
first whole year that Jeff and I lived together. And though we have known each
other for almost a decade, it’s fun that there were still some surprises along
the way.
Ok. Let me tell this straight, there is nothing new here. We
are not expecting (yet), we haven’t bought a new house or a new car but we did
make some career move decisions.
So what is year one for my life as a wife?
LOTS OF MOMENTS JUST THE TWO OF US
We both love traveling and taking that opportunity while
we are still young and still have no kids. We’ve known each other for quite
some time but we really didn’t have the chance to do roadtrips back when we were
still dating. (Maybe because our schedules didn’t allow for it, we were medical
students). But now, we’ve come to see most of the places within our drivable
radius.

BE SPONTANEOUS
So while we are at the traveling topic, I might as well say this, I am an organized freak! I need to schedule a trip in advance, even the
stops, plan the whole itinerary, book hotels and flights way before the
date and so on (you get the idea). But my husband isn’t, he wasn’t even
close to how freakish I am! He sometimes book flights last minute, if we’re lucky
it could be two days prior. With our accommodations, he will walk-in at a hotel because we didn’t have reservations. When I ask him of our
itinerary, he’ll reply with “I don’t know, we’ll see.. I heard of some place nice around here, let's check it out”. At first, I wasn't loving the idea, but afer traveling 21 US States and multiple cities for our first year, I’ve
come to enjoy how cool it is to be spontaneous and adventurous! Compromise is
the key! Now at least he has to tell me what clothes I need to pack. I still have a disdain for last minute shopping on the rare occasion when we don’t have appropriate
clothes to wear (believe me, that had happened). But every trip was fun (planned or not) or else, we wouldn't have these many journeys in a year
To anyone who has been to my unit back in med school, my
fridge only had water, yogurt, veggies and lots of fruits. I even had a low-calorie vegetable food subscription back then. But now, I have to accept that my
husband is one great meat lover! Whenever he does groceries, he’ll come back
home with lots of ribeye! And as I said, compromise is the key, now I’ve been
able to learn how to cook steak myself.
HAVING A HAMPER IS JUST A SUGGESTION
So I told you I was an organized freak, and yes I am that too at home! During the first few weeks, I was upset that socks never make it to the
hamper, yet it's kinda funny that it finally grew on me and to be fair
with him, there are only a few countable moments that he left his socks on the
floor.
COOKING 101 and it only gets better.
I didn’t know how to cook, I really didn’t. And yet after a year
in marriage, I've learned tremendously and I think I’m getting pretty good at it. I have
one satisfied costumer. Haha (you ask him)
So this is year one. Above all I said there is one thing that
both of us agree on, WE DO BOTH LOVE EACH OTHER and we are able to work
through our life's challenges together. And
I never imagined it is ever possible to love someone as much or even greater
than how you love yourself, and for my JWC, he is definitely worth it! I cant
wait for our coming years together and forever!
